The 6th Annual IEEE Conference on Group IV Photonics (GFP'09) will be held 9-11 September 2009 at the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins, San Francisco, California, USA . It represents a major international forum to present and discuss recent research results on the development of Si-based photonic materials and devices for the electronic\photonic convergence which is needed to build the next platform for the new information age. Applications span from optical interconnects to medical devices, from novel concepts in solar cells to optical micro electro-mechanical systems, since production of photonic devices integrated with microelectronic circuitry opens the way to a wide range of novel applications. Contributions are solicited on recent developments in group IV photonic devices operating at a wavelengths within the wide spectrum ranging from the ultraviolet to the very far infrared (terahertz). The conference will also accept papers that describe monolithic, or quasi-monolithic, integration of compound semiconductor structures upon silicon.

Topics:

Advanced Materials Technology

This subcommittee solicits papers with a primary focus on: Advances in group IV and related compatible materials technologies; Materials properties and optical interactions; Physics of materials, materials growth, deposition, and related materials processing; Advances in heteroepitaxy and hybrid bonding technologies; Demonstration of novel materials properties for device applications; Nanoocrystals and nano-engineered materials, porous Si; Integration of rare-earth and other impurities, defect states.

Sensor, Resonator, and Filter Technologies

This subcommittee solicits papers with a primary focus on: Designs, demonstrations, or performance of waveguides, resonators, filters, polarization components, photonic crystals and photonic crystal-based functionality in group IV and related compatible materials; Integration of these elements into sensors and related sensor technologies; Applications to communications, signal processing, sensors.

Silicon Photonic Integrated Circuit and Active Device Technologies

This subcommittee solicits papers with a primary focus on: Designs, demonstrations, or performance of modulators, photodetectors, emitter and laser devices in group IV or process compatible materials; Photonic integrated circuits; Systems issues and systems integration of photonic integrated circuits and devices; Applications to interconnects, communications, and signal processing.

The 9th IFAC Symposium on Robot Control (SYROCO2009) will be held at the Nagaragawa Convention Center in Gifu, Japan from September 9 to 12, 2009. All the past symposiums were held in Europe. To create a new foothold for growth, the 9th SYROCO comes to Gifu, Japan. It is the first time that SYROCO is held in non-European countries.

The primary topics for the SYROCO 2009 will be "Robot Control in Human-Robot Dynamic Interaction". Robot control technology is widely used for space, surgery, rehabilitation, micro machine, entertainment, underwater, civil engineering etc. It will continue to play an increasing role in the area of human-robot dynamic interaction technology. The SYROCO 2009 will also try to cover the whole range of areas in the field of robot control including mobile robots. Contributions on basic research as well as on relevant applications are included.

Topics of interests include, but are not limited to the followings.
Haptic interaction
Telemanipulation
Micro/Nano manipulation
Networked robots
Hybrid Dynamical System
Robot control (adaptive, robust, learning)
Force and compliance control
Multi-fingered hand control
Multi cooperative robot control
Sensory based robot control
Modeling and identification
Mobile robots
Humanoid robot
Advanced Applications: space, surgery, rehabilitation,
entertainment, underwater, civil engineering, etc.
